PPP ATTENDS RECEPTION MARKING THE 77TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA

Today, the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), represented by our National Administrative Secretary, Sir Dawda H.E. Jarju, was invited to attend a reception hosted by H.E. Ambassador Liu Jin, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to The Gambia, on the occasion of the 77th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China.

It was a proud and historic occasion for the PPP, given the Party’s historical role in establishing diplomatic relations between The Gambia and the People’s Republic of China in 1974. The two countries formally established diplomatic relations on 14 December 1974, during the PPP administration under President Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara.

The occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on the longstanding friendship and cooperation between The Gambia and China. During the first period of diplomatic relations, Chinese doctors, agricultural experts, engineers, and technicians contributed to various areas of development in The Gambia.

For the PPP, the occasion was also an opportunity to reflect on the historical foundations of the relationship between the two countries and the importance of maintaining strong bonds of friendship and cooperation between the Gambian and Chinese peoples.

As a gesture of friendship and appreciation, the PPP presented H.E. Ambassador Liu Jin with a copy of the book The Story of the PPP: The Voice of the People, 1959–1989, documenting the Party’s journey, contributions, and historical legacy.

The book is now available at Timbuktu for members of the public, researchers, students, and anyone interested in learning more about the history and legacy of the People’s Progressive Party.
