OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Today, the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), in accordance with Article 15.2(4) of the Party Constitution, which provides that the Party National Central Committee shall “negotiate with other parties on any possible alliance or coalition subject to the approval of the National Executive Committee,” has proceeded in strict compliance with this constitutional provision.

The Party National Executive Committee (NEC), comprising 34 representatives elected from the 17 constituencies currently duly established by the Party, with each constituency electing two representatives, convened today to consider and ratify the Gambia First Coalition UDP-led Alliance MOU and Agreement.

We are delighted to inform all party members and supporters that the National Executive Committee has unanimously approved and ratified the agreement, authorizing the PPP to proceed with the coalition arrangement.

Honouring our history does not mean living in the past. It means carrying forward the principles, democratic traditions, discipline, national vision, and values that defined the PPP while preparing the Party for the realities and opportunities of the 21st century.

Accordingly, effective today, the PPP has formally entered into the agreement and committed itself to respecting and upholding all provisions contained in the Gambia First Coalition UDP-led Alliance Agreement.

The Party is now ready to proceed from the MOU stage to the formal signing of the Agreement at the earliest possible opportunity.

PPP PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE FOR THE 2026 ELECTION

In accordance with Article 2.3 of the Gambia First Coalition UDP-led Alliance MOU and Agreement, Hon. Ousman Madikay Faal, Secretary-General and Party Leader of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), hereby declares and affirms the Party’s support for His Excellency Lawyer Ousainou ANM Darboe as the PPP’s Presidential Candidate for the December 5, 2026 Presidential Election under the Gambia First Coalition, UDP-led Alliance.

This declaration is made in accordance with the provisions and commitments contained in the coalition MOU and Agreement, following the approval and ratification of the arrangement by the National Executive Committee.

All PPP members are therefore urged to fully support the coalition, campaign for our candidate, mobilize voters, and actively participate in all coalition activities within their respective communities and regions.

This marks a new chapter for the PPP and a new opportunity for The Gambia. We call on every party member to remain united, disciplined, committed, and focused as we work together toward victory.

Long live the People’s Progressive Party!
