PPP Calls for Transparent Investigation into the Tragic Death of Mr. Omar Badjie Allegedly under Police Custody.
The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has learned with deep sadness and concern of the tragic death of Mr. Omar Badjie in Mandinaring, allegedly while under police custody. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones, and the entire community during this painful and troubling moment.
This tragedy is unacceptable. No individual in the custody of the State should ever lose their life under questionable or preventable circumstances. The events that led to Mr. Badjie’s death represent a grave failure to uphold the basic duty of care and protection owed by law enforcement to every citizen.
The PPP condemns any acts—whether of negligence, abuse, or excessive force—that contributed to this loss of life. We call on the Government and relevant authorities to launch an immediate, transparent, and impartial investigation, with full public disclosure of the findings and swift accountability for all those responsible. Justice must not be delayed or denied.
We also demand that the Gambia Police Force and all security services reflect on their mandate to serve and protect, not intimidate or harm. The continued use of excessive force and intimidation against citizens erodes public trust and undermines the very foundation of our democracy.
The PPP stands firmly with the people in their right to demand accountability, but we also urge all citizens to channel their grief and anger peacefully, united in the pursuit of truth and reform.
The PPP remains steadfast in our commitment to a society where human dignity, rule of law, and accountability prevail over impunity and violence.
