PPP Central Committee Charts New Path for Reform and Unity

The Central Committee of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) recently convened a pivotal meeting to chart the way forward on key internal reforms and policy issues. This high-level gathering marks a renewed commitment to unity, internal strengthening, and grassroots revitalization.
A Call for Focus and Unity
The session was opened by Secretary-General and party leader Ousman Madikay Faal, who set a firm tone for the proceedings. He called on all members to give utmost priority to the party’s internal affairs, emphasizing the need to foster a more inclusive environment and promote unity across all levels. “Our focus must be on restructuring and reorganizing the party nationwide,” Faal stated, “to enhance our competitiveness and overall effectiveness.”
Reports and Restructuring Plans
Members of the Central Committee received detailed briefings from the party’s various wings, including the youth, women’s, and diaspora branches. A comprehensive financial update was also presented by the deputy national treasurer, highlighting the current status and the need for strategic fundraising initiatives.
In a significant development, the committee adopted new standing orders to ensure that future meetings are conducted in a more structured and efficient manner. This procedural shift reflects the party’s broader commitment to transparency, accountability, and operational excellence.
Boosting Financial Capacity and Outreach
The formation of a dedicated fundraising committee was another major highlight of the meeting. This new body will play a critical role in enhancing the PPP’s financial health and supporting its outreach programs, ensuring the party is well-resourced to carry out its ambitious reform agenda.
Strengthening the Grassroots
The committee also discussed plans for widespread party reorganization, particularly in light of newly established regional offices. A unanimous call was made for all constituencies and regions to organize congresses to elect their local leadership, in accordance with Articles 25.1 and 27.1(2) of the PPP constitution. This move is seen as a step toward decentralizing leadership and empowering grassroots members.
Reviving Political Education Through 'Jakarlo'
In a nod to the party’s legacy, the Central Committee deliberated on the revitalization of the PPP’s political education units, locally known as “Jakarlo.” These units are intended to educate members on the party’s constitution, principles, history, and policy frameworks.
The Political Education Unit will also support the PPP’s Mentorship Program, which aims to nurture the next generation of leaders. By deepening political literacy and fostering ideological alignment, the party hopes to ensure that its legacy and principles are passed on effectively.
Looking Ahead
This meeting marked a renewed sense of purpose and direction for the People’s Progressive Party. With a focus on restructuring, financial empowerment, political education, and grassroots organization, the PPP is laying the foundation for a more resilient and responsive political movement. As the party moves forward, it remains committed to inclusivity, unity, and a reenergized vision for national progress.
