PPP Confirms Participation in UDP-Led Opposition Alliance Signing Ceremony

The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) wishes to officially confirm to its members, supporters, stakeholders, and the general public that, following the Party’s Central Committee meeting held today, 7 August 2026, it has resolved to participate in the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) establishing a UDP-led Opposition Alliance.

The PPP is a leading party within this opposition alliance and has, following extensive consultations and negotiations conducted in good faith, agreed to become a founding member of the coalition. The alliance brings together registered political parties and political movements with the shared objective of providing Gambians with a united democratic alternative in the 2026 Presidential Election.

Our participation reflects the PPP’s commitment to national unity, democratic governance, constitutionalism, and placing the interests of The Gambia above partisan considerations. We believe that cooperation among democratic forces is essential to advancing good governance, accountability, and sustainable national development.

The Memorandum of Understanding represents the first formal step towards finalizing the alliance agreement, subject to the completion of each participating party’s internal constitutional procedures and approval processes.

The Party therefore calls upon all PPP members and supporters to remain united and focused as we embark on this historic journey alongside our coalition partners. We also urge the public to disregard speculation and misinformation concerning the Party’s position. The People’s Progressive Party hereby officially confirms its participation in the signing ceremony as announced by the Joint Media Committee.

Further information regarding the alliance and its objectives will be shared following the official signing ceremony and the joint press briefing.
