PPP Joins the World in Celebrating the UN’s 80th Anniversary
Banjul, 12 November 2025 — The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) was honored with an invitation to attend the 80th Anniversary celebration of the United Nations (UN), marking eight decades since the organization’s founding on October 24, 1945.
Our Secretary-General and Party Leader, Hon. Ousman Madikay Faal, was invited to attend the celebration, and I had the honor of representing him on his behalf.
The event celebrated the UN’s enduring mission of peace, unity, and global cooperation — values deeply shared by the PPP and The Gambia. It also reflected on The Gambia’s historic role at the UN, beginning with Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara’s 1965 address to the General Assembly, where he affirmed the nation’s commitment to democracy, rule of law, stability, peace, and international partnership.
Over the years, The Gambia has remained an active participant in UN peacekeeping, youth empowerment, and sustainable development initiatives. The PPP’s presence at this milestone celebration underscored its continued dedication to Jawara’s vision — of a Gambia that contributes meaningfully to global peace and progress.
The above historic picture was also presented by the UN Country Representative to the Vice President of The Gambia, symbolizing the strong and enduring partnership between The Gambia and the United Nations.
The photo captured one of the proud highlights of the celebration — a reminder of the pivotal role the PPP and Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara played in securing Gambian sovereignty and shaping the country’s presence within the United Nations. The Gambia’s voice continues to resonate among nations striving for a better and more united world.
