PPP Launches Asset Recovery Committee (ARC) to Reclaim Seized Properties
The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has taken a pivotal step toward justice and restitution by establishing the Asset Recovery Committee (ARC). This decision comes as part of the party’s commitment to address the unlawful seizure of its properties and assets by the AFPRC Military Junta—an act carried out without due legal process.
On May 27th, 2025, party leader Ousman Madikay Faal convened an emergency meeting under the authority of Article 24.1 (4), which empowers the Secretary-General’s office to form ad-hoc or standing committees. This session resulted in the formal establishment of the ARC, dedicated to initiating and overseeing the party’s asset recovery process.
Objectives and Responsibilities of the ARC
The Asset Recovery Committee (ARC) has been formed with a clear Terms of Reference that outline its strategic goals and duties:
1. Stakeholder Engagement
The ARC will reach out to key stakeholders—including party members, legal experts, and community leaders—to foster support and gather critical insights. These consultations will be transparent, inclusive, and aimed at ensuring all landed properties and holdings are rightfully returned to the People’s Progressive Party.
2. Government Liaison
One of the core functions of the ARC is to engage with government officials and agencies. Through formal correspondence and strategic meetings, the committee will advocate for the return of seized assets and seek appropriate compensation where necessary.
3. Strategic Advice
In its advisory capacity, the ARC will provide ongoing strategic recommendations to the party’s central committee. This includes guidance on policy, legal frameworks, and actions required to strengthen the recovery effort.
4. Periodic Reporting
Transparency remains a top priority. The committee will regularly report progress, challenges, and upcoming actions to the central committee to ensure consistent oversight and alignment with party leadership.
Party Endorsement and Committee Composition
The formation of the Asset Recovery Committee (ARC) received unanimous approval from the central committee. This reflects the party’s collective resolve to reclaim its assets and restore what was unjustly taken. The ARC will include individuals with deep historical knowledge of the PPP’s properties and operations, positioning them to navigate the complex legal and political terrain ahead.
