PRESS RELEASE

The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) wishes to inform its members, supporters, and the general public that, following the establishment of the Party’s Coalition Negotiating Team, the Secretary-General and Party Leader, Ousman Madikay Faal, has approved the Party’s participation in the ongoing opposition coalition discussions.

The PPP Coalition Negotiating Team comprises:

* Mbemba Nanko – National President
* Saikou Sawo – Flag Bearer
* Nenneh Cheyassin Secka Kebe – Vice Presidential Candidate and Chairperson of the Fundraising Committee
* Sir Dawda H.E. Jarju – National Administrative Secretary

The Party will officially join the coalition discussions on Saturday, 27 June 2026. The negotiating team has been given a clear mandate and specific focus areas to guide its engagement in the ongoing talks.

Throughout these discussions, the PPP will prioritise The Gambia, mindful of the growing national call for opposition unity and collective action in the interest of the Gambian people. Our participation will be guided by principles of patriotism, national development, democratic governance, and the pursuit of a better future for all Gambians.

In addition to the broader coalition discussions, the PPP negotiating team will engage in bilateral consultations with other opposition parties to strengthen collaboration, build mutual understanding, and explore areas of common interest. The PPP has a longstanding and distinguished history of coalition-building and political cooperation dating back to the independence era, and remains committed to constructive dialogue and consensus-building.

The Party’s involvement in these discussions will focus on advancing substantive issues, building agreement on key national priorities, and contributing meaningfully to efforts aimed at achieving a united and effective opposition front.

The PPP remains committed to keeping its members informed as developments unfold.

Signed:
Sir Dawda H.E. Jarju
National Administrative Secretary
