Bijilo, 23 February 2026 — A delegation of students from The Gambia College School of Agriculture, led by Modou Lamin Njie, Hawa Baldeh, Matida Touray, Germine Mendy, and Mustapha Gaye, today paid a courtesy visit to the Secretary General and Party Leader of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Hon. Ousman Madikay Faal, at his residence in Bijilo.
The visit aimed to present their initiative titled “Building Innovative Agricultural Skills from Classroom to Real Life,” a project designed to promote agriculture, agro-processing, and value addition in The Gambia. The delegation outlined plans to establish a food processing centre, address post-harvest losses, and promote locally made products such as pepper sauce, kinkiliba, mbor mbor, groundnuts, millet, tiger nuts, and super cereals. They also discussed opportunities for cultivating and processing cucumbers, banana chips, onions, and other agricultural products.
Hon. Ousman Madikay Faal warmly welcomed the delegation and commended the students for their visionary initiative. He described the project as a beacon of hope for national agricultural transformation and youth-led innovation.
“Today we are honoured to host these young and dynamic students from The Gambia College School of Agriculture. Their initiative is a beacon of hope for our nation’s agricultural development. We must support and encourage such endeavours,” he said.
The Secretary General reaffirmed the PPP’s commitment to institution-building, youth empowerment, and national self-reliance.
“As a party, the PPP is committed to building strong institutions, empowering the people, and promoting self-reliance. Youth education and collaboration are central to achieving these goals. We will continue to provide platforms for our youths to thrive and contribute meaningfully to national development,” he added.
Addressing the students directly, Hon. Faal urged them to remain committed and resilient in their pursuit of agricultural innovation.
“Keep pushing forward. Your efforts will yield dividends. Work hard, be responsible, and contribute to building our nation. Together, we can achieve massive development in agriculture and food security.”
The PPP Secretary General reiterated the party’s support for the students’ initiative and encouraged continued efforts towards building a self-reliant and food-secure Gambia.
