JUSTICE FOR THE FAMILIES OF THE FALLEN OFFICERS: COURT ACQUITS, STATE RE-ARRESTS — PPP CONDEMNS THREAT TO RULE OF LAW
The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) begins by expressing its deepest sympathy and unwavering solidarity with the families of the two police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. These fallen heroes served the nation with courage and dedication, and their tragic deaths remain a painful wound on our national conscience. Their families deserve truth, justice, and above all, closure.
We reaffirm that the demand for justice in this matter is both legitimate and urgent. The entire nation stands with the bereaved families in their search for answers and accountability.
Against this backdrop, the PPP strongly and unequivocally condemns the reported re-arrest of Mr. Ousainou Bojang following his lawful acquittal and release by a competent court of law. This action represents a direct and dangerous assault on the rule of law, the independence of the judiciary, and the constitutional order of our country.
Let there be no ambiguity: when a court of law delivers a judgment—especially an acquittal—that decision is final and binding unless overturned through due legal process. It is not subject to circumvention or reversal by executive action. Any attempt to do so undermines democratic governance and erodes the very foundation of justice.
At the core of the PPP’s founding principles is an unwavering respect for the rule of law. It is this principle that compels us to speak out forcefully at this moment. The reported re-arrest of an acquitted individual is not a minor procedural issue—it is a grave constitutional concern that strikes at the heart of justice and institutional integrity.
While we note that the government’s filing of a motion to block Mr. Bojang’s release may be considered a legal tactic within the framework of the law, such actions must not be used to defeat or delay the clear effect of a court’s judgment. Legal processes must serve justice—not frustrate it.
Let it be clearly stated: the acquittal of Mr. Bojang does not answer the fundamental question of who is responsible for the killings of the fallen officers.
Justice for these families cannot end in uncertainty. It demands that the real perpetrators be identified, pursued, and held accountable under the law. Anything less would be a failure not only to the bereaved families but to the nation as a whole.
This is why the PPP emphasizes that this moment must mark a turning point. The focus must shift from reactionary measures to a serious, credible, and independent effort to uncover the truth. A fresh and comprehensive investigation is not optional—it is necessary.
The PPP therefore calls on the government to:
1. Immediately cease any actions that undermine or contradict the court’s ruling;
2. Provide a clear and lawful explanation for the re-arrest of Mr. Bojang;
3. Fully respect and uphold the authority and independence of the judiciary;
4. Launch a fresh, independent, and transparent investigation aimed at identifying the real perpetrators;
5. Ensure that the families of the victims receive the truth and closure they deserve.
This moment is a defining test of leadership. The nation is watching closely—not only to see whether action is taken, but whether that action is lawful, just, and focused on delivering real accountability.
The rule of law must stand. The courts must be respected. And above all, the truth must be found.
“The voice of the people is the voice of God.”
